Truckee Meadows Community Colleges’ Diesel Technology program received a donation of a fully functioning 597 model semi-truck with a PACCAR MX engine on Wednesday afternoon, from two local heavy-duty truck dealerships.
Peterbilt Truck Parts & Equipment and Silver State International both long-time heavy-duty truck dealers are sponsors of TMCC’s diesel technology program.
They are committed to helping train the next generation of diesel mechanics.
The donation took place at TMCC at the William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center located at 475 Edison Way in Reno on Wednesday, August 28 at 10 a.m.
A spokesperson for the event says that both dealerships have chosen to donate the truck to provide the program with the advanced tools necessary for the students to learn to work with relevant brands and products that are most commonly used in the heavy-duty truck industry.
They say that PACCAR engines are the first heavy-duty truck engines to receive the diesel industry’s B10 design, which means that 90 percent of the engines will log over one million miles without a major overhaul.
